What Once Was Mine (published in September 2021) is the 12th installment in Disney’s wildly popular Twisted Tale anthology series. Written by Liz Braswell, this Young Adult fantasy novel offers a dark, alternate-history reimagining of the 2010 animated film Tangled.

In the original Disney film, the ailing Queen drinks a potion made from the magical Sundrop flower, giving her newborn daughter golden hair with the power to heal.

In this dark retelling, the Sundrop flower cannot be found in time. Instead, the King's guards mistakenly harvest the Moondrop flower—a sister plant that holds the power to destroy and decay. When the Queen drinks the Moondrop potion, Rapunzel is born with pitch-black hair that drains the life out of anything it touches.
