As a fine arts student, Falak molds a magnificent sculpture of what she envisions to be the "perfect man." Her life changes completely when she meets Salman Ansar, an elite, wealthy young man who happens to be the exact, breathing manifestation of her sculpted masterpiece. Falak becomes wildly, single-mindedly obsessed with him. She changes her lifestyle, her habits, and her choices just to appease him. Eventually, despite some family reservations, she manages to marry him.

Falak believes she has achieved total happiness, but her world shatters when Salman falls intensely in love with Tabinda, a crass, uneducated, and visually unattractive worker from his factory. Salman enters into an extramarital affair with Tabinda, completely casting Falak aside. When Falak confronts Tabinda, she suffers a severe nervous breakdown—unable to comprehend how her husband could choose a woman so "inferior" and physically plain over her flawless beauty.
