Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

Set in El Paso, Texas, during the summer of 1987, the story focuses on fifteen-year-old Aristotle "Ari" Mendoza. Ari is a deeply angry, lonely boy who keeps his walls locked tight. He struggles to communicate with his father, a Vietnam War veteran suffering from severe PTSD, and is haunted by the heavy silence surrounding his older brother, who is currently serving time in prison. Ari has no real friends and views the world with a cynical, quiet detachment.
